I’d been vegetarian (eating everything apart from meat and fish) for about 10 years before I took the decision to be vegan. Moving to a strict vegan diet is a big step, for example you can no longer rely on cheese and eggs to fulfil your daily protein requirements. Balancing your diet becomes more difficult. Shopping at the supermarket is a whole new area of learning (why do so many products include whey powder from milk?).
One thing I wanted to make sure of before I took the final step was that I would still be able to eat cake and ice-cream. Not that I am a daily cake/ice-cream eater you understand, I just wanted to know that on special occasions I would be able to indulge in a slice or scoop or two. I know, chickens, cows and whole “where does the food come from” thing should have been uppermost in my thoughts – but I’d been wresting with that one for 10 or so years. Cake and ice-cream became the deciding factors.
I will include in this blog honest reviews of vegan cake and ice-cream recipes. Please join me in my quest to find the perfect vegan chocolate cake and the creamiest non-dairy ice-cream.
As I said though I’m not a daily cake or ice-cream eater, so it make take a while to build up the recipes.
